Greetings fellow
lazy folk,
As said before,
grilled cheese sandwiches are the backbone of us lazy eaters. Yes, we all love
the simple ooey gooey cheesy sandwich that takes only minutes to make.
As good as they are,
these sandwiches can be improved. The improvement is not that much
more complicated then adding the word gourmet in front of the grilled cheese
sandwich.
Take your grilled
cheese to a higher level with this simple recipe.

Before I get on with the recipe I have to tell you a
little bit about my upbringing. My dad used to make me grilled cheese
sandwiches all the time. That is after all how to win my love. I'm sure many
people's parents did this for them when they were younger too, however, my
father had a little twist to it. Coming from a French family, there's one important
thing you need to understand about the average Frenchman.
WE LOVE MUSTARD!
As the bad ass
grandma from those Frank's Red Hot Sauce commercials put it, we put that shit on
everything. Including ham, hot dogs, burgers sandwiches AND grilled cheese. I
know there are many of you out there that despise mustard but, you're probably
one of those people who but Ketchup on everything. Don't get me wrong, Ketchup
is great...on three things.
- Burgers
- French Fries
- Hot Dogs
That's it, it does
not belong on eggs or steak. The point I'm trying to make here is I can't
trust your taste.
Back to my story.
Regular grilled cheese sandwiches taste great with just Kraft's single sliced cheese and can be improved (in my opinion) with a dash of mustard. If we're really
feeling really fancy, we'll add a slice of ham.
So here I was hungry
and lazy, thinking, if by adding a slice of ham and mustard to a grilled cheese
can make it that much more delicious....what else can I do.
And then my
masterpiece was born.
Here's what you will
need:
- 2 slices of bread (what ever
bread you prefer)
- Butter (duh)
- Mozzarella cheese (or
whatever other cheese is your favourite)
- 1 slice of deli meat
- Tomato
- Spinach (optional or any
other veggie you like)
Note: this is my way
of doing it but as you can see you can add whatever you'd like to put your own
twist on things. (Yes even if you want to add your precious ketchup)
Here's what you
gotta do: ( you should already know most of this)
- Shred, yes I said shred some
of that block of cheese. This makes it easier to melt. If you too lazy to
do it yourself, buy some of the already shredded cheese that I find too
expensive.
- Butter both side of each
piece of bread.
- Add piece of bread to frying
pan on med-low heat.
- Add shredded cheese and deli
meat on and top with second piece of bread.
- After browning each side of
sandwich and allowing for the cheese to melt turn off the stove top, open
sandwich to insert sliced tomato and/or spinach.
- Devour that beast!
I like adding in the
veggies afterwards so they are not soggy, if you'd like you can add them along
with everything else before you grill it.
Enjoy!
